STAFF CHANGES

Rick Bender, to First Baptist Church, South Hill, Va., as youth minister.

Robin Dunn, concluding his tenure as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Chase City, Va., to become a teacher with Halifax County Schools.

David Hall, to First Baptist Church, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., as pastor.

Chad Janey, to Blackberry Baptist Church, Bassett, Va., as pastor.

Stephen Layne, to Rose Union Baptist Church, Piney River, Va., as pastor. Previously he was a church planter in New York.

Billy Roberts, to Central Baptist Church, Newman, Ga., as interim minister to youth.

David Smith, to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Valdese, N.C., as interim pastor.

Larry Soblotne, to Whitehead’s Grove Baptist Church, Smithfield, Va., as pastor. He comes from the pastorate of Faith Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va.

Anthony Wall, concluding his tenure as associate pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Blackridge, Va., He will become minister of youth and music at Lifesong Church, Ashland, Ky.

Chris West, to Hope Valley Baptist Church, Durham, N.C., as minister to youth.

Ryan Williams, concluding his tenure as pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, Red Oak, Va. He will become resident director at Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Mo. 

RETIREMENTS

Johnny McKinney, retiring after 25 years as senior pastor of Boulevard Baptist Church, Anderson, S.C., effective Jan. 31, 2018.

Craig Sherouse, announcing plans to retire as senior pastor of Second Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., in April 2020.

ORDINATION

Alan and Mary Newcomb, ordained to ministry on Sept. 17 by Boiling Springs (N.C.) Baptist Church. 

DEATH

Raleigh M. James, 89, died Sept. 11 in Richmond, Va. He was pastor of New Life Baptist Church, Henrico, Va., from 1979 until the time of his death. He also held other pastorates in North Carolina, Virginia and Louisiana. He is survived by his wife, Jane; three daughters, Kathi Hodge, Joni Welborn and Lori Lambert; three sons, Dennis, David and Jonathan; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Dale Ashley, 20 years as pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Beaverdam, Va.
