STAFF CHANGES

Ansley Alfano, to Deermeadows Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla., as interim minister to children, effective Nov. 1.

Carol Cloer, to First Baptist Church, Sylva, N.C., as youth minister.

Barry Jones, to Forest Hills Baptist Church, Raleigh, N.C., as interim pastor.

Jacob Roberts, to First Baptist Church, Eatonton, N.C., as associate pastor. 

RETIREMENT

Randy Markel, retiring as associate pastor for pastoral care at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Glen Allen, Va., effective Dec. 2. 

ORDINATIONS

Emily Davis, ordained to ministry on Oct. 7 by First Baptist Church, South Boston, Va.

Cindy Hong, ordained to ministry by Willow Meadows Baptist Church, Houston, Texas, on Sept. 10.

Christine Powell Kellett, ordained to ministry by Augusta Heights Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C., on Sept. 10.

Jennifer Rutter, ordained to ministry by First Baptist Church, Nashville, Tenn., on Sept. 24. 

DEATHS

David L. Bartlett, 76, died Oct. 12 in New Haven, Conn. He was senior minister of University Baptist Church, Minneapolis, Minn.; Hyde Park Union Church, Chicago, Ill., Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, Chicago, and theologian in residence for the Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a full-time member of the faculty at American Baptist Seminary of the West, Berkley, Calif; Graduate Theological Union, Berkley, Calif; Divinity School of the University of Chicago; Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, Va.; and Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn., from which he retired as the Lantz Professor Emeritus. He is survived by two sons, Jonah and Benjamin.

John D. Bloskas, 89, died Oct. 3 in Waco, Texas. He was vice president and associate director of the endowment board of the SBC Annuity Board (now Guidestone Financial Resources). In 1981 he started the Adopt-an-Annuitant program, now called Mission:Dignity to help provide assistance to ministers and their spouses who lacked adequate retirement income. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne B. Webb, and son, John Blokas Jr. He is survived by his wife, Anna; a son, Ken; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mark D. Walker, 56, died Oct. 16 in Hope, Ind. At the time of his death he was pastor of First Baptist Church, Hope, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Molli; and children, Micah, Caleb and Carla Walker.
