STAFF CHANGES

Dan Busse, to River Club Church, Fredericksburg, Va., as pastor. He comes from Heartland Church, Normal, Ill., where he was lead pastor.

Todd Deaton, to the Baptist Courier, news magazine of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, effective March 1. He comes from the Western Recorder, news journal of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, where he was editor for 10 years.

Sarah B. Drummond, to Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn., as president, effective June 30. She began her service to Andover Newton in 2005, teaching courses on ministry and directing the field education program.

Tom Nestor, to Fairmont Baptist Church, Boones Mill, Va., as pastor.

Santiago Reales, to the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina, as director of Red Latina (CBFNC Latino Network). Most recently he was associate pastor of Hispanic-Latino ministry at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, N.C.

Eric Spivey, to First Baptist Church, Gainesville, Fla., as senior pastor, effective in March. He comes from the pastorate of First Baptist Church. Cornelia, Ga.

Dale Peterson, to West End Baptist Church, Suffolk, Va., as interim pastor.

Nevin Werron, to First Baptist Church, Haddonfield, N.J., as interim pastor.

 

RETIREMENTS

Robert Baker, retiring after 27 years as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington, Ky.

Martin Copenhaver, retiring as president of Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn., effective June 30.

Jeff Cranford, retiring as field strategist and compensation planning specialist for the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

 

ORDINATIONS

Barbara Jane Barker, ordained to ministry on Jan. 20 by First Baptist Church, Clemson, S.C.

Kadeisha Bonsu, ordained to ministry on Jan. 20 by Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, Cary, N.C.

Sarah Macias, ordained to ministry on Nov. 4 by Royal Lane Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.

Lindsey Mosher Trozzo, ordained to ministry on Jan. 6 by Church in the Cliff, Dallas, Texas.

Cadance Tyler, ordained to ministry on Jan. 20 by Grace Hills Baptist Church, Appomattox, Va.

Sarah Shannon-Wildt, ordained to ministry on Dec. 30 by Church of the Savior, Austin, Texas.

 

DEATHS

Jack Harwell, 86, died Jan. 18 in Atlanta, Ga. He was the editor of the Christian Index, a newspaper of the Georgia Baptist Convention, for 30 years and editor of Baptist Today (now Nurturing Faith Journal) for 10 years. He most recently served as minister of pastoral care for First Baptist Church, Morrow, Ga. He was predeceased by a son, Don. He is survived by his wife, Teliea; a son, Ron; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Donald R. Kammerdiener, 82, died Jan. 23 in Richmond, Va. He administered the day-to-day operations of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention under two presidents and stepped in as interim president between the two, spanning a period from 1990 through 2001. He and his late wife, Meredith, began their missions careers in 1962 in Colombia and later served in Argentina. Before missionary appointment he was pastor of churches in Oklahoma and Missouri. He is survived by five children, Carol, Joyce, Linda, Donny Jr., and Jon.

Amos Healy, 30 years as pastor of Wilderness Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, Va.

Mark Wingfield, 15 years as associate pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.
