‘It's All About Missions!” is the theme for the annual meeting of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society set for 7:15 p.m., Tuesday, May 16 at Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond.
The keynote speaker will be Rosalie Hall Hunt, a former missionary and the author of Bless God and Take Courage, a new biography of Adoniram Judson and his three wives, Ann, Sarah and Emily.
The speaker will share from the saga of the Judsons and their pioneer missionary work in Burma as well as the author's discoveries of their remaining legacy today. Hunt is the current president of Alabama Woman's Missionary Union.
The evening program also will salute the Heritage Fellows, outstanding college students selected by the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies for extensive study on Baptist history and principles. The new appointees will be introduced and the out-going class will be recognized for its contribution.
The current Fellows studied missions delivery and produced a new resource publication also entitled It's All About Missions!, which will be available at the meeting.
Also at the program the winner of the Center's first “Roots & Wings Young Scholars Essay Contest” will be recognized.
In the evening, Bill Tinsley, leader of WorldconneX, a missions network based in Texas, will report on highlights from a convocation on missions delivery in the 21st century which will have occurred earlier in the day. The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies sponsors “think tank” gatherings on topics of current interest to Baptists and the convocation is the latest of these opportunities.
The annual meeting is free and open to the public. A dinner precedes the meeting at 6 p.m. and limited reservations are available. For information call (804) 289-8434.
